POUNDLAND is making a major change that means shoppers won’t even have to leave the comfort of their sofa to grab bargains.

The high street retailer will soon be adding online shopping to its website.

Anyone looking at poundland.co.uk right now will only be able to see what is available in stores.

It shows items like Capri Sun selling at two for £1 and Homeware from its Pep&Co range.

But you can’t add them to your basket and order them to your home or a nearby store.

Shoppers visiting Poundland.co.uk can only check the stock availability of items in their local store.

That’s about to change as customers will soon be able to purchase Poundland products at Poundland.co.uk.

The new shopping site will launch later this summer, with an exact date yet to be confirmed.

The new site follows Poundland buying Pounshop.com.

It bought the competing discounter back in March last year.

Some Poundland products and its the Pep&Co range have been available to buy on the rival site since then.

But now the two sites will merge, meaning shoppers can buy more Poundland products online.

The retailer is looking to recruit 120 new roles at its Darton food hub in South Yorkshire for its online expansion.

Tom Hill, Poundland’s director of digital. said: “We now look forward to building a team at Darton that can help us also expand our digital business as we offer our customers more ways to shop at Poundland.”

It’s expected that customers will get access to a much wider range of products for home delivery.

And anybody who visits the Poundshop.com domain will automatically be redirected to the Poundland website.

Shoppers can buy everything from food and drink to homeware and health and beauty products online on the current Poundshop.com site.

Customers need to spend a minimum of £20 as part of the minimum checkout spend.

And UK standard delivery is only free if you spend £50 or more.

Standard delivery charges under this amount are:

  • Spend £20-£29.99 – £5.95 delivery
  • Spend £30-£39.99 – £4.95 delivery
  • Spend £40-£49.99 – £2 delivery

Next day delivery is only free on orders over £100 and the following rates apply to checkout amounts below this:

  • Spend £20-£29.99 – £6.95 delivery
  • Spend £30-£39.99 – £5.95 delivery
  • Spend £40-£49.99 – £3 delivery
  • Spend £50-£99.99 – £2 delivery

It’s unclear whether these charges will change when shoppers are directed to Poundland.co.uk, but we’ll update this story once we know.

Customers can continue to shop at all 850 Poundland stores and can locate their nearest on the Poundland website.

If you are shopping in-store it’s important to make a note of how you can save money at the retailer.

The move comes after Aldi decided to AXE online shopping for its Specialbuys.

Meanwhile Primark has shied away from offering a fully shoppable website, instead showing stock availability in stores and offering a trial of click and collect.

Poundland has more than 800 stores across the country and is opening 50 more this year.

How can I save money when shopping at Poundland?

It’s not just about looking for the cheapest items in Poundland – there’s other ways to save money at the retailer.

You should visit first thing in the morning, when your local branch will be fully stocked from the day before.

Meanwhile, it’s always worth checking out the clearance shelves – even in Poundland you can get items for cheaper than usual.

Where the clearance shelf is will vary from store-to-store, so if you’re not sure where it is, ask a staff member.

You can always check prices on the Poundland website too – if you find a product online at a certain price and it’s not that in your local branch, you can ask a manager whether they can price match for you.

They aren’t obliged to, but it’s always worth asking.
