This is the Double Stack Sandwich, a mouth-watering treat featuring two of Popeyes deliciously marinated chicken breasts.

The major menu change comes after the chain noticed that nearly 500 customers per week chose to add a second chicken breast to their Sandwich.

A spokesperson for Popeyes said that after monitoring the trend for over two years, and watching it quickly become a cult classic, they have decided to make it easier for fans.

Dave Hoskins, head of food at Popeyes added: “Team Popeyes is excited to announce the arrival of the new Double Stack Sandwich to our UK menu.

“Our customers love our chicken, and sometimes they want even more of it when ordering our legendary Chicken Sandwich.

“We’ve seen the hack, we’ve listened to our fans and we’re pleased to be making the Double Stack official – so more people can easily opt for some extra Shatter Crunch in their Sandwich.”

Both chicken breasts will be prepared as usual, with fresh chicken that is marinated for 12 hours using a signature blend of herbs and spices from Louisiana.

The breasts are then hand-breaded and battered, and stacked inside a gorgeously soft brioche bun.

Like with the Chicken Sandwich, Popeyes fans can choose to pair the Double Stack Sandwich with the chain’s original mayo, or the spicy mayo.

Both the Classic Double Stack Sandwich and the Spicy Double Stack Sandwich will cost customers just £7.99.

The brand-spanking new Double Stack has been made available as of April 16, in restaurants, drive-thrus and on delivery apps across the UK.

Popeyes opened its first location on June 12, 1972, in Arabi, Louisiana, with the name “Chicken on the Run,” but quickly changed it to Popeyes Mighty Good Chicken just four days later.

After three years of running the chicken business, the company finally renamed it Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken.

By 1985, Popeyes already had 500 locations throughout the US and Canada.

Outside of North America, Popeyes is now located in more than 30 countries internationally.

The chain launched in the UK in November 2021, and hopes to double in size this year – with an additional 30 new restaurants, drive-thrus and delivery kitchens across the country.

Through these new ventures, the chain hopes that they will be able to generate 2000 new jobs in the UK.

Fast food giant McDonald’s is also set to shake up its menu this week, with several new items set to hit restaurants on April 17.

A new Lotus Biscoff Frappe is set to join the menu, and the popular flavour will also feature as a McFlurry – which made its first appearance on menus last year.

Also new are the Cheese and Herb Melts, ideal for a quick snack.

The Chicken Big Mac is making a comeback after landing on UK shores for the first time in 2022.

The deluxe Quarter Pounder will be available once again, as well as the Galaxy Caramel Pie first seen in December, and Galaxy Chocolate McFlurry.

The menu shake up is only in place for six weeks, so if you’re keen to try one of the seven fresh items, you’ll have to be quick.

It’s a twist on the classic Big Mac with a triple-layered bun, two chicken patties, slice of cheese, lettuce, pickles and Big Mac sauce.
