There are two focuses to the new DLC, the first is a difficult gauntlet of double battles, and the second are the new biomes with lots of opportunities for catching.

If you wish you could catch and control your own monsters but don’t own a Switch here are some alternatives you can play.

World of Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy has its own creature-catching spin-off called the World of Final Fantasy featuring chibi versions of the popular characters.

It brings all the weird and wonderful creatures from the series, with almost 250 beasts you can battle alongside.

More in Pokémon

Captured monsters come in three sizes, and you can stack them on top of each other for powerful combinations.

This gives great versatility when battling and makes for some surprisingly deep strategising.

Cassette Beasts

Cassette Beasts has a number of benefits. It’s probably the most like Pokémon, it’s a recent release, and it’s free on Xbox Game Pass.

With multiple beasts to record, remix, and battle with you’ll be playing for hours to find your favourite combinations.

It plays a little differently from Pokémon as you can combine two beasts to make one powerful form, and there is a lot more focus on status conditions.

However, if you like Pokémon, you’ll like Cassette Beasts, and it won’t cost you the sun and the moon.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince

Dragon Quest came out long before Pokémon and in some parts of the world it’s still the more popular monster battler.

The Dark Prince is the most recent game in the Monsters subseries which is Dragon Quest’s version of a creature catcher.

You collect and fuse monsters together to create new, cute, or horrifying creatures.

It’s a must-play game for Dragon Quest fans and one that’s sure to delight Pokémon fans too.
