Usually, you have to meet up in person to take down and capture difficult Pokémon in raids.

However, Remote Raid Passes allow you to take part even if you live in a rural area, or don’t have friends close by.

These Passes now cost twice as much as they did previously, and there are limits on how many you can use.

Developer Niantic claims the decision was made in order to improve the social aspects of the game.

Pokémon Go is introducing a new type of Raid in the hopes of winning back fans.

Shadow Raids will be introduced into the game during the Riding Shadows event which will start on Monday, May 22, 2023.

When a gym is taken over by Team Rocket, it will now be transformed into a Shadow Raid.

The boss of these raids will be a Team Rocket Shadow Pokémon which can be caught if defeated.

Shadow Mewtwo will be the first target of these raids, and there will be the chance to catch a shiny one.

There will also be three-star Shadow Raids with easier Raid bosses.

Adding to the controversy, players will not be able to participate in Shadow Raids using Remote Raid Passes.

Only players who meet up with others in person will be allowed to participate.

Shadow Raids will also be more difficult that typical raids as the Pokémon will be able to increase their attack and defense.

To counter this a new item is being added that players can use to weaken the opponent.

Several can be used at the same time, making these fights much easier.

However, this can only be done if players have a large party to raid with.

Niantic hopes to win back those who have been boycotting raids since the change to Remote Raid Passes.

Shadow Raids are certainly an exciting addition as they give players more ways to catch rare legendary Pokémon.
