Filling up: BMW will recommend Pod-Point chargers to its electric car customers
Pod Point has become the go-to supplier of electric vehicle chargers for BMW.
In a major boost for the newly listed business, it has signed a deal with the German car maker which will see it recommended to UK customers when they buy electric vehicles. The charger maker, founded in 2009, secured a similar agreement with BMW rival Mercedes-Benz last year.
Pod Point makes and installs charging points at homes and in public locations. The deal with BMW will cover all cars under that brand as well as the Mini, which has been owned by the Germans since 1994.
Pod Point, which floated last year, has a network of 16,000 public chargers across the UK, including locations such as supermarkets Sainsbury’s and Lidl.
It also controls between 50 per cent and 60 per cent of the at-home charging market, with 121,000 charge points installed.
