In these, it states that the digital media you purchase is not truly yours to own, but is more like a long-term rental.

Deep in the fine print companies reserve the right to remove any digital content that you have purchased without a reason.

Of course, this rarely happens. If a company were to do this regularly, people would lose faith in them.

However, a recent announcement from PlayStation has revealed that this will soon happen to PS5 owners.

The issue was first brought to people’s attention by an email stating: “As of December 31, 2023, due to our content licensing arrangements with content providers, you will no longer be able to watch any of your previously purchased Discovery content and the content will be removed from your video library.”

This means that any TV shows purchased via Discovery will soon be deleted from your console and no refund will be given.

Over 1k seasons of TV shows are affected by the change, mostly coming from popular reality TV shows.

Hugely successful shows like Say Yes to the Dress, Naked and Afraid, Cake Boss, and Mythbusters will all be getting the chop.

PlayStation owners are obviously angry about the issue. One Twitter user wrote: “They should give them a refund. That’s straight-up stealing.”

Another said: “Now just imagining this scenario but with games instead of movies. Hope it doesn’t happen with a large library of games”
