PLAYSTATION previously announced that it had 12 games in the works, but now half of those have been delayed.

While many were eagerly awaiting a number of these games, it seems that PlayStation is off target.

The Last of Us will also receive a live service game.

The Last of Us will also receive a live service game.

In a previous earnings call, the company stated that its studios were working on 12 live service games, investing more in this model.

Live service games are games like Fortnite or Genshin Impact that have a long lifespan via consistent updates.

While these are popular, generating billions for their developers, most live service games don’t have this success.

Square Enix’s Babylon’s Fall is the best example of this closing less than a year after it launched.

Essentially, when these games are successful, they do incredibly well, but it’s a high-risk, high-reward venture.

Despite this, PlayStation stated it would put its faith – and cash – in live service games, hoping for good results.

The 12 games included a multiplayer game set in the world of The Last of Us and an online game for the Horizon series.

These games were originally all scheduled to launch before March 2026, but this has been changed in a recent earnings call.

COO Hiroki Totoki said: “We are trying as much as possible to ensure [the live service games] are enjoyed and liked by gamers for a long time,

“From the 12 titles, six titles will be released by FY25 – that’s our current plan. However, with the remaining six titles, we are still working on that.”

The company still wants to focus on live service games, and restated that it will continue on their development.

However, the other games are being delayed due to the progress and quality made so far.

He continues: “That’s the total number of live service and multiplayer titles.

“Mid-to-long-term, we want to push this kind of service, and that’s the unchanged policy of the company.

“It’s not like we stick to certain titles, but game quality should be the most important.”
