After an outpouring on social media calling for the return of the condiments, bosses at Pizza Hut are returning the shakers.

The chilli and hard cheese shakers were present in restaurants since 1973 when the first Pizza Hut opened in Islington.

But they were removed almost a decade ago, much to the disappointment of fans.

The hard cheese shaker was removed in 2014 and the chilli shaker in 2020.

The return of the shakers will come as welcome news to the social media users who have been messaging Pizza Hut after their demise.

One said: “Oh I miss those parmesan shakers, where did the cheese trust go?”

And another said: “Always mourn the loss of the chilli flakes and parmesan shakers when I come to Pizza Hut.”

While another added: “Went to Pizza Hut with my dad today and felt like I was telling him Santa wasn’t real when I had to tell him they took away the cheese shakers and chilli flakes away years ago.”

Kathryn Austin, chief people and marketing officer at Pizza Hut restaurants, said: “We’re the home of the pan, inventors of stuffed crust and cheesy bites, the king of the buffet and ice cream factory originals, but, the one item that we are constantly asked about in our UK dine-in restaurants is the return of the chilli and hard cheese shakers.

“The number of tweets, Facebook messages and DM’s we receive asking for their second coming is most likely now in the thousands.

“So, as a 50th-anniversary gift, we can confirm the news that pizza lovers have been waiting years for, the shakers will once again be shaking their stuff in restaurants around the UK.”

Since launching in Islington in 1973, Pizza Hut now has more than 700 Restaurants and Delivery outlets in the UK.

To celebrate the golden anniversary, the inventors of the stuffed crust are making their classic cheesy bites crust available across Britain.

The chain has also launched an exclusive birthday cake cookie dough, available only for dine-in customers.

Pizza Hut is not the only restaurant delighting fans with the return of old favourites.

McDonald’s recently announced the return of an iconic freebie and fans were going wild.
