PepsiCo Inc. laid out a new plan to save water as companies grapple with water scarcity driven by rising demand and climate change.

The food-and-beverage giant said Tuesday it would set tougher water-efficiency standards at more than 1,000 company-owned and third-party facilities, nearly half of which are in areas where the water supply is under strain.
