IF you’re struggling with your Wi-Fi speed at home, downloading a smartphone app could help.
Whether you use iPhone or Android, there is a type of app that can help you spot dead zones in your house.
A dead zone is a term experts use to refer to a spot where Wi-Fi signals are not reaching.
Some apps claim to be able to detect these spots and highlight them.
Then, you can either move your router or buy Wi-Fi extenders to make sure you can get internet access in that part of your home.
A quick search on the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store reveals apps claiming to be able to help with this.
It’s important to do your research and make sure the app you download is legitimate.
The App Store has an app called Wi-Fi Deadspot.
It says it “shows the dead spots in your premises where Wi-Fi speeds suffer.”
One review states: “I wanted a app just to tell me my wifi signal strength was in each room of my house.

“It let me see where I was at in each room. I moved my wifi and watched my signals get better. My homes WIFI is now more balanced.”
However, another reads: “I recommend skipping this one for now. Without an update, the app is pretty much useless and a waste of time.”
CNET previously recommended a dead zone app called NetSpot.
That app can be downloaded on your laptop and does the same as an app on your smartphone.
The NetSpot website explains: “All you need is your MacBook running macOS 10.12+ or any laptop with Windows 7/8/10/11 on board and NetSpot which works over any 802.11 network.”
It should show you a heat map of your home network so you can see any spots your Wi-Fi isn’t reaching.
