People are just realising there’s an essential iPhone trick to prevent costly damage to your device

GETTING water into the speakers of your iPhone isn’t the nightmare it once was, but it does leave speakers muffled and scratchy.

And now Siri can rush to the rescue for you.

You can easily just leave the iPhone in a bowl of rice to dry out.

But this takes a few hours, and the imaginary audience attending your shower singing session is demanding an encore.

The iPhone 14 are IP68, meaning they can go to a maximum depth of six meters under water for up to 30 minutes.

Although newer iPhones – the iPhone 7 and later – are IP67 and IP68 water-resistant, you can’t claim a warranty, free support, or replacement in case of water damage.

So, even though water damage is unlikely, it’s best to not risk liquid staying in the speakers for any longer than needs be.

One savvy iPhone owner at ZDNet has revealed a way to copy a water repellent hack that’s built into the Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch has a feature that uses sound pulses to eject water from the speaker. 

But iPhones don’t have this feature built in.

Thankfully, there is a way to add it and trigger it via Siri.

To activate it, simply follow these steps:

1. First you need to download the Water Eject shortcut which is available on iCloud.
2. This should take you to the Shortcuts app on your iPhone where you can tap the plus sign in the top right corner to Add Shortcut.
3. This process also tells you that saying “Hey Siri, Water Eject” will activate the shortcut, or you can access it in the Shortcut app. 
4. Then tap on Start and choose the intensity level you want to use.
   • Level one will run the process once, level two will do it twice, and level thee will run it three times.
5. The shortcut will then begin to emit a tone from the speaker.
   • It’s important to note: You must not wear headphones when running this shortcut.
