Investors took a dim view of PayPal Holdings Inc.’s growth outlook Tuesday, sending shares down sharply in early trading.

The payments firm’s stock fell about 12%, putting it on pace for its second-worst trading day ever. The S&P 500 index fell 0.4%. Shares of the company have been falling in recent months after hitting a high in July.
