And now fans are set to be able to try a ‘Very Cherry’ flavour, according to a post online.

The announcement was made on the Facebook group Newfoodsuk after it was spotted at an Asda store.

SunnyD fanatics were ecstatic and wanted to try the new drink.

One said: “Ooh will have to keep an eye out for that.”

Another commented: “I got this the other day along with blue raspberry.”

A third wrote: “This sounds amazing.”

Sunny Delight was originally developed in 1963 in Florida, US, and launched in the UK in 1998.

The juice brand launched an alcoholic version – SunnyD Vodka Seltzer – last year at Walmart.

Each can contains 95 calories and zero grams of sugar.

A four-pack costs $9.99 (£8.44).

Ilene Bergenfeld, CMO of Harvest Hill, said the launch of the alcoholic drink was created per fans’ requests.

She said: “So, we looked at the hard seltzer category, and thought, good, but we can do better. And SunnyD Vodka Seltzer was born.”

MORE PRODUCTS HITTING THE SHELVES

SunnyD isn’t the only one introducing new products to the market as Marks and Spencer released its own soda brand with retro styling on the can and retro flavours like cream soda.

Meanwhile, Costa has also launched a winter menu of food and drinks, including a thick milkshake drink, but warmed.

They come in three different flavours: White Chocolate and Strawberry, Salted Caramel Coffee, and Chocolate Hazel.

Tango is also set to release Raspberry Blast and Cherry Blast flavours, which are the two flavours in the Ice Blast slushy.

Vimto Discovery Zero is also set to release new flavours with a passionfruit and lychee, and a mango and dragon fruit flavour.

History of SunnyD

The orange drink was originally developed by Doric Foods in 1963 in Florida, US.

Sundor Brands bought out Doric Foods, before Procter & Gamble purchased the company in 1989.

It was then spun off into the independent Sunny Delight Beverages Company (SDBC) in 2005.

The beverage was launched in the UK in 1998.

It became the third biggest selling drink, behind Coca-Cola and Pepsi, by 1999.

Today the beverage is distributed by Dr Pepper/Seven Up in the US and Saputo in Canada.
