SHIVERING Brits are stocking up on Nora Batty-style granny tights to keep warm.
The thickest leg warmers flew off the shelves during last month’s cold snap.

As energy bills soar amid a cost of living crisis, looking like fearsome Nora from BBC sitcom Last of the Summer Wine is no joke.
Retailers say sales of tights with 300 denier thickness are up 50 per cent compared to the start of 2023.
Anything above 70 denier is generally considered to be thermal, and 200s are also selling well.
Tights company owner Allana Loftus, 29, said: “I’ve seen people wearing them under trousers — they can also be worn as loungewear.

“For people that can’t afford to put the heating on they are a good alternative as they are warm and cosy.”
She added that some trendier leg warmers are also sheer “so they don’t look like you are wearing super-thick granny tights”.
Britain’s most famous thick tight wearer was Nora Batty character from Last Of The Summer Wine which ran for 37 years, with the final episode airing in 2010.
It was based in the chilly West Yorkshire village of Holmfirth and followed the antics of Compo, Clegg, and Foggy, three hapless older men and their attempts to find something to do

Much of the humour came from the interplay between Compo and Nora Batty, played by actress Kathy Staff, and her penchant for wearing thick rumpled tights.
Allana, from Cramlington, Northumberland, added: “Tights are also a good option if you can’t afford to buy a whole new outfit at the moment – you could buy a polka dot style which creates a whole new look to your current clothing.”
