NINTENDO has a lot of fantastic games under its belt, having spent the last 40 years making some of the most memorable and iconic video games ever.

Its most iconic game series, though, is the Super Mario Bros. series, which has featured on every single Nintendo console since the NES launched in 1983.

The series is usually split up into two subseries, the 2D Mario series and the 3D Mario series, and both of those series have gotten representation on the Nintendo Switch

The Switch’s 3D Mario entry, Super Mario Odyssey, is one of the best-selling games on the console, and now it’s available at a pretty decent discount.

Nintendo has revealed its big Blockbuster Sale, with over 1000 games on sale for up to 70% off — including first-party titles like Mario, Zelda, and Animal Crossing.

Super Mario Odyssey, for example, is 33% off, meaning Switch owners can buy the game on the Nintendo eShop for just £33.29.

This is tied for the biggest sale to date for Super Mario Odyssey, as Nintendo tends not to discount its first-party titles much.

Third-party titles are getting much bigger discounts, though, with games like Diablo 2 Resurrected and Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania both selling for more than 65% off — around £12 each.

The Blockbuster Sale runs until April 7, 2024, so interested buyers have just under two weeks to get their hands on cheap Mario, Zelda, and Animal Crossing.

The sale comes as fans eagerly anticipate news of the next Nintendo console, which is expected to be announced sometime this year.

At first it was expected that the Switch would be followed up by a mid-generation refresh called the Nintendo Switch Pro, but it’s been rumoured that the console was cancelled in favour of a generational leap.

Many expected the Nintendo Switch 2 to be released in 2024, but rumours have suggested the highly anticipated console could be coming in 2025 instead, in part to deter scalpers by building up stock.

Industry analysts have said that it could come at a heavy cost though, with some predicting that the console could be the most expensive Nintendo console yet, at up to £400.
