But if you are a Nintendo Switch Online member, there are hundreds of games you can grab as part of your subscription.

Here are our five favourite games from the Nintendo Switch Online library.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Ocarina of Time has long been considered the best game of all time with Metacritic’s highest rating of 99.

Not only can you enjoy Link’s first 3D adventure, but there are plenty more amazing Zelda games as part of your subscription.

If you like the open world of Ocarina of Time, you can check out its darker sequel, Majora’s Mask.

Other amazing games include The Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past, the Oracle series, and Minish Cap.

Super Mario World

Following the success of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, people are returning to the classic 2D Mario games that started the series.

The best of these is Super Mario World, where Mario first got his cape and learned to fly.

However, World isn’t the only amazing Mario game available. The original Super Mario Bros., and Super Mario Bros. 3 are also available.

And if you want something a little different, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins and Super Mario 64 are also on the service.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2

Not only does Switch Online contain a number of games from Nintendo’s classic consoles but it also has an excellent library of Sega Mega Drive games.

The best of these is Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which is also considered one of the best games in the Sonic series.

This is where the classic Sonic mechanics were introduced, such as the Spin Dash and your side-kick Tails.

If the Blue Blur isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other Mega Drive classics like Streets of Rage to enjoy instead.

Donkey Kong Country

Donkey Kong pioneered the idea of 3D sprites and backgrounds in a 2D platformer, and the art style ensured it stood out from the crowd.

You can play in either single-player or two-player with each person controlling either Donkey or Diddy Kong.

There are a number of tricky platforming stages, and bosses to overcome if you want to make it through this one.

While it’s considered quite difficult by today’s standards, Switch Online has some great save state options to help you out.

Super Metroid

Putting the Metroid in metroidvania, Super Metroid is one of the games credited with starting a whole new genre.

Despite its age, Super Metroid had a huge map to discover with endless twisting paths, hidden secrets and difficult bosses.

You will gather new weapons, armour, and items that will help you enter blocked off paths.

Super Metroid is one of those games that shaped gaming history, and everyone who loves games should play it.
