NEXT shoppers are only just realising they’re being stung with an additional fee – and they’re not happy about it.

Customers can save money on deliveries and returns by opting for an annual subscription, which costs £22.50 a year.

Through the membership you get unlimited free furniture, standard home, send to a friend and parcel shop delivery.

Plus, you can return any items to one of the retailer’s more than 450 stores without charge.

Previously, you could also get courier returns included for free as well, but the retailer has now ditched them.

Next brought in the change at the start of 2023 and instead now charges customers £2.50 per item.

New subscriptions taken on or after January 27 have to pay the charge and any existing subscriptions started being charged from March 23.

But some shoppers are only just realising the change has been brought in.

Posting on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook page, one customer said yesterday: “Beware if you pay for the yearly Next free next day delivery and returns, returns aren’t free anymore (unless to a store).

“I renewed my subscription and apparently should have read the small print (despite them having been free previously) they’ve now changed it.

“Just queried it as I’ve returned three things this week and had £2.50 deducted off each.”

The post has been liked over 120 times with nearly 300 commenting, some saying they’re furious and others relieved they’ve just realised about the hike.

One said: “A few stores are doing this now, Roman Originals, New Look, free if you take it back to the shop though.

“Roman can be awkward in some shops and won’t take them back if you order online! Total rip off.”

Another said: “Lost faith with them. My renewal is due in September I have cancelled it.

“Fed up with returning being collected and waiting ages for a refund.”

A third added: “Thank you for sharing this – I have renewed and use the returns service LOADs.

“Just looked at my statement OMG won’t be doing my returns from home again. So glad I read this.”

Despite the new charge being brought in for courier returns, you can still save yourself money by opting for the Next Unlimited bundle.

If you’re a regular shopper and order a lot of clothes, it takes just less than five purchases to make your money back.

But if you’re not happy that the new charge for returns has been brought in, you can cancel your subscription at any time.

How to cancel a Next Unlimited subscription

You are allowed to cancel a Next Unlimited subscription at any time.

If you cancel within 14 days of purchase, and have not placed an order with free delivery, you will be refunded.

You can do this by logging into your Next account via www.next.co.uk.

But, if you want to cancel after 14 days, you won’t be given a refund and your access to the service will immediately stop.

You also won’t be able to do it online and have to call customer services on 0333 777 8000.

Make sure you check with your service provider if you’ll be hit with any charges for making the call.
