Warehouse jobs: Next said it wants to shut its Toftshaw Lane facility in Bradford as it is

Next plans to close its Bradford warehouse that processes online returns – leaving almost 800 staff in jeopardy.

The High Street fashion chain said it wants to shut its Toftshaw Lane facility as it is developing a new online hub 28 miles away in South Elmsall.

Some 780 logistics staff at the site will be affected, with closure scheduled by next September. But Next expects there will be ‘sufficient vacancies to accommodate everyone’ at other sites.

The Toftshaw site is where returned parcels are processed.

A Next spokesman said: ‘We appreciate this announcement will be difficult for our team at Toftshaw as there are people who have worked for us for many years.’

The firm, which plans consultation talks with unions, has defied gloom on the High Street this year with rising sales.
