A NEW Pokémon event could be the most exciting one yet for fans, with some highly valuable and rare Pokémon available at much higher rates than normal.
This weekend sees the return of a major Pokémon raid event, with two normally unavailable Pokémon – Walking Wake and Iron Leaves – available in raids for a limited time.
But that’s not the only event that’s taking place in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, as there’s also a mass outbreak event that’s live now.
Four Pokémon will be appearing in Paldea, Kitakami, and Blueberry Academy, in mass outbreaks that see large hordes of the Pokémon spawning at once.
Varoom, a Steel/Poison-type Pokémon that evolves into Revavroom, and Magikarp, the Pokémon that evolves into the powerful Gyarados, will be appearing across Paldea.
The Electric-type Pokémon Shinx will be appearing in Kitakami, while the Bug-type Rellor will be available in mass outbreaks in Blueberry Academy’s Terarium.
More on Pokémon
Typically, every Pokémon has a 1/4000 chance of being shiny, which changes the colour of the Pokémon and has a sparkle effect when the Pokémon is sent out.
There are ways to boost the shiny rate in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and the highest rate you can achieve is 1/512.
All of the Pokémon in this mass outbreak event, though, have a significantly higher shiny rate than they normally would in the wild, at 1/200.
This rate can be boosted further through the use of sandwiches, the Shiny Charm, and defeating multiple Pokémon in the outbreak.

The easiest way to find a shiny is to approach the mass outbreak, which is clearly marked on the map, and look for one — if one isn’t there, simply walk away so the Pokémon despawn, then approach it again.
The mass outbreak event is celebrating Golden Week in Japan, and these Pokémon were chosen because their shiny forms are all gold in colour.
Players will be able to find shiny Rellor, Varoom, Shinx, and Magikarp in outbreaks from today until May 6, 2024.
