A TWO-bedroom home was rushed off the market after nearly 100 people applied to be its next tenants in just one day.

Over 90 applications to rent the house flooded in during the first 48 hours of its listing – but what is so special about the property?

Rightmove listed “a fantastic and rare opportunity” to rent the home for the first time on July 4 at £950 per month for a year’s fixed tenancy – available from today.

But the letting agent was forced to close applications on July 6 due to the ridiculously high demand.

The company is even asking people not to call their “extremely busy” phone lines, but to email instead.

A message added to the listing now reads: “Due to in excess of 90 applications received for this property, applications have now closed.”

The rental sits in the sought-after Pentire area of Newquay, a honeypot for sunseekers visiting Cornwall.

Its location in the tourist trap is close to the popular surfing destination of Fistral Beach and not far from the golf club or zoo.

The garden has stunning views over the rolling fields and on to the Cornish coastline.

As well as this position, the property boasts two-bedrooms, a parking space, garage and an enclosed South-facing garden.

Inside the house is unfurnished, but the agent described it as “stunningly presented”, “bright and airy” and “spacious”.

The property advert on Rightmove reads: “A fantastic and rare opportunity to rent a two bedroom family home in the ever popular area of Pentire available from the 9th of August 2022.

“Nestled between the River Gannel and Fistral Beach with convenient access to Newquay Town.

“Light, bright and airy throughout, this spacious accommodation features and open plan lounge/dining area, kitchen, two double bedrooms, main bathroom, an enclosed southerly facing garden, garage and driveway that offers the prospective tenants comfortable and modern living in a sought after area.”

As well as the location and lovely interior, the local paper linked the incredible interest in the property to the “widely reported Cornwall housing crisis” which has left countless locals seeking somewhere to live.

Just earlier this summer, Brits were warned to hold off on booking holiday lets in the area, as locals claimed they have been priced out of their own home towns.

New figures revealed that Cornwall had the highest increase of holiday lets, jumping from 2,500 in March 2020 to 11,000 in May 2022.

The enormous number of second homes, AirBnBs and holiday rentals filled with tourists means Cornwall locals cannot find places to live themselves.

Former MP for St Ives Andrew George therefore urged tourists back in May not to stay in holiday homes unless they can check they aren’t harming the local life, in an article for The Guardian.

Instead, Brits should use local hotels or B&Bs to support the hospitality industry.

Cornwall has been popular with holidaymakers for decades, but with the pandemic boosting the staycation buzz, locals said things have got “out of hand”.

They complained of being unable to afford homes in the area, despite needing to work there, which could be the reaosn why this two-bed has been snapped up so quickly.
