The National Basketball Association’s first-ever In-Season Tournament lived up to the hype on the court. There was a playofflike atmosphere uncommon in December. Up-and-coming stars and teams had a chance to shine. Players genuinely wanted the championship trophy. 

What the league wanted most was for viewers to tune in. They did—but the championship game is what really shined.
