NAUGHTY Dog’s next game will be “structured more like a TV show” according to studio co-president Neil Druckmann.
Naughty Dog is one of the most beloved studios in gaming, with historic games such as Crash Bandicoot and Jack & Daxter, and more recent blockbuster titles like Uncharted and The Last of Us.
Uncharted was recently adapted into a Hollywood movie starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, and The Last of Us’ HBO TV adaptation is due to release very soon.
It seems the studio’s flirtation with live-action has influenced Druckmann’s own approach to writing.
In a new interview with The New Yorker, Druckmann has stated that Naughty Dog’s next game is “structured more like a TV show,” and is being written by an assembled writer’s room.
Druckmann has also reportedly told a cinematographer on HBO’s The Last of Us that she could work on Naughty Dog games in the future, if she’d prefer.
The Last of Us Part II was hailed as a revelation in terms of video game animations and performances, crafting a more realistic and believable world than most games manage to achieve.
With its long narrative cutscenes, it’s unsurprising that Druckmann might take notes from TV and movies for the future of both franchises.
