A LUCKY family have scooped a whopping £55,000 each in the People’s Postcode Lottery – here’s how they’re spending the cash.

Elizabeth Brown and husband Bevan bagged themselves the life-changing win, along with daughter Caroline Wood and her partner Darren.

When Liz discovered she’d hit the jackpot she immediately rushed over to her daughter’s house next door to check if they’d also won.

The ex-army nurse, gran-of-three said: “When I got the phone call from the lottery, the first thing I did was look at the adjoining wall and I said, ‘Please Caz, I hope you’ve paid your Postcode Lottery ticket this month.’

“It turns out Caz and my son-in-law Daz have both won and I’m so pleased.

“They do an awful lot for us especially as we’re getting older – it’s always been handy having them next door.”

The 71-year-old Scunthorpe resident added that she plans to upgrade her teeth, she said: “I’ve had these teeth since 2011 and you can nearly see through them.

“And we only have a bath which I struggle to get out of. I sometimes go next door and use theirs, but this money means I can now get my own shower.”

Liz’s husband Bevan, a retired administrator, shared a touching plan for his winnings.

He said: “My two grandparents both died without a headstone, and I want to look at doing something to mark their graves, as they were very much loved.”

Daughter Caroline, who works at a retirement housing complex, described their windfall as “crackers” but “life-changing.”

“It really is life-changing because, like most people at the minute, you live pay cheque to pay cheque”, the mum-of-three said.

“It means more than anything that my parents have won, more than me winning – they’ve both got bad health and my dad constantly worries about money.

“To know that they’re comfortable now is a big weight off. I’m so chuffed.”

The couple are planning to repair their car – and save their son Liam the hassle of borrowing his.

The 28-year-old said: “Dad will definitely get his car back on the road now. It’s been off the road for months and I’ll be happy to have my car back.”

There were 13 other neighbours who also won as the lottery’s weekly £1million prize was announced on Saturday, June 17.

The lottery costs £12 a month to play and a minimum of 33 per cent from each ticket goes to charity.

This comes as a former nurse won £400,000 on the People’s Postcode Lottery – but her sister who lives just downstairs got nothing.

Terry Young, 61, lives in a top floor flat in Mitcham, south London – one floor above her younger sister Janet Neale, 60.

Terry was one of two winners who bought tickets in the jackpot postcode – CR4 4AG.

Another 331 people in the postcode sector CR4 4 shared a remaining £202,612 between them.

But Janet unfortunately never bought a ticket.

Meanwhile, an ex-Royal Marine won the entire £400,000 People’s Postcode Lottery prize for his area thanks to his late wife.

Alan Mizon, 77, scooped the largest share of the total £3.2million jackpot, calling it a “miracle”.

And he had a little help from beyond the grave, as his wife Diana set up the winning ticket before tragically passing away from cancer in July 2020, aged 73.
