NETFLIX is the must-have streaming platform but little do most people know there are ways to make it even better.

The site may have 222million users worldwide, but with an ever-growing list of rivals including Disney+, Amazon Prime, and NOW, Netflix needs to keep innovating to keep users happy.

That doesn’t just mean producing loads of great new shows, but developing features that are useful.

Some of these features are tucked away, even though they might enhance your viewing experience.

While others require some external skills. We reveal all…

Remove ‘are you still watching’

The ‘are you still watching?’ screen is a bit marmite – you either love it or hate it.

For those that need a reminder, it pops up when you’ve had Netflix on for quite a while and assumes you may have nodded off.

So rather than leaving the episodes of a show to keep playing to no-one, it will ask if you’re still there.

If you’re a serial Netflix binger and the message annoys you, there is a way to stop it – though there is a snag.

It only works if you’re watching from a computer, and specifically using Google Chrome.

Never Ending Netflix is a free extension that will automatically play the next episode rather than ask that annoying question.

Find hidden movies

There’s loads to watch on Netflix so it can be a bit like searching for a needle in a haystack to find that perfect movie.

Thankfully there is something that can help, with secret category codes.

Netflix’s way of displaying categories isn’t liked by everyone so if you would like things done the old fashioned way, category codes are the way to go.

For example, if you fancy a food show, put in 72436.

For musicals and music-related shows, type 13335.

There’s a full list to try here.

Protect your Netflix profile

It’s not uncommon for households to share one Netflix account between several family members.

If you don’t want people snooping on the stuff you watch, you can lockdown your account.

All you need to do is login and from the drop down menu in the top left select Account.

From here, choose the drop down arrow next to the account you want to lock.

Under ‘Profile Lock’ click Change.

You can then set a password.

Watch Netflix with others using Teleparty

Made particularly popular during the pandemic, Teleparty allows you to watch something with others elsewhere at the same time.

There’s a chat box if anyone wants to comment on anything during the film.

And if someone pauses or plays, it applies to everyone, so you’re all in the exactly the same spot.

Hide what I’ve watched on Netflix

If you’ve watched something you’re embarrassed about or just don’t want others to know, you can hide it.

All you need to do is go to Account, select the account in question and click View under Viewing activity.

You can then hide whatever you like from the list.

Test new features first

If you love getting hold of new features first, you can become a tester for Netflix.

All you have to do is visit netflix.com/DoNotTest and ensure it’s switched on.

You won’t notice anything radical immediately but next time they are trying something out it may well appear on your account first.

Choices, choices
