The extended opening times include almost all of M&S’ food-only branches, along with some clothing and food stores.

The midnight closing applies on December 21, 22 and 23. Christmas Eve hours are likely to be different to regular opening times, but the midnight hours won’t apply.

Last year, most M&S stores shut at 6pm on Christmas Eve and didn’t open again until Boxing Day. We’ve asked Marks and Spencer for its Christmas Eve and Boxing Day hours and we’ll update this article when we know more.

M&S recommends customers check its store finder tool for the latest hours.

Sacha Berendji, M&S’s Retail, operations and property director said: “We want our customers to be able to shop with confidence this Christmas, which means supporting social distancing in our stores and minimal queueing outside as the weather gets colder.

“To help with this, we’ll be operating our longest ever opening hours just before Christmas.

“Along with the wider industry, we continue to ask for Sunday trading hours to be extended to help us increase our capacity to serve everyone safely this festive season.”

Marks and Spencer isn’t the first supermarket to confirm its Christmas opening hours.
