M&S has axed its infamous “naughty” Valentine’s dish after five years.

Shoppers expecting to tuck into the “Love Sausage” on the most romantic day of the year are facing heartbreak.

The Marks and Spencer's Love Sausage was a hit with customers last year.

The Marks and Spencer’s Love Sausage was a hit with customers last year.

The 450g Love Sausage has been on the M&S shelves for the past five years, but this time round its fans have been left ghosted.

The Valentine’s Day breakfast treat was made of two heart-shaped pork sausages wrapped in bacon.

Last year loved-up couples described the popular breakfast item as “really tasty” and “a winner”.

The Sun contacted Marks and Spencer after noticing the popular item was not causing its usual stir on social media and a spokesperson confirmed it was not available this year.

While we do not have any other details at this stage we will update here when we have more.

The item was last seen in February 2023 when it was reduced in price on Ocado.

The breakfast treat was slashed from its usual retail price of £6 to just £3 on the online supermarket’s website.

At the time one shopper said: Absolutely loved this and a bonus that it is gluten-free which you would never guess! It had a lovely smokey flavour with a hint of truffle, would definitely buy again.”

And one more claimed it “definitely raised a smile”, although they reckoned it was a lot for just two people.

We have had a look around to see if any other supermarkets were offering similar items that might hit the spot for couples wanting a romantic breakfast for two.

Sadly there is nothing quite like the Love Sausage, although there is plenty to choose from when it comes to Valentine’s Day dining.

Most of the supermarkets are offering a special Valentine’s Day dine-in meal that includes three courses and a drink.

The good news is there is something something to suit everyone’s taste buds and wallets too.

We also have some handy hacks so that you don’t have to break the bank to show your softer side.

Asda has a three-course dine-in deal that will cost you just £12 working out at only £6 each.

What’s more, it is cheaper than last year which was priced at £15 and you get a choice from seven starters, ten mains and two desserts.

Co-op members can get their hands on a three-course dine for just £10.

Non-members can get the same deal for £12 which includes a choice of one of six pizza flavours to share and a bottle of Prosecco.

Heron Foods, Iceland and Sainbsury’s are among the other supermarkets offering meal deals but there are many more.

We have the full list of supermarkets doing Valentine’s Day meal deals with prices starting from less than £4 per person.

Meanwhile, if you are still on the last-minute lookout for a romantic dinner that doesn’t break the bank we might be able to help you out.

We can reveal a little-known hack that can even get you a Valentine’s Day meal for free.

How to cut the cost of your grocery shop

EXPERTS at money.co.uk have shared some top tips to help you keep your supermarket spend down.

  • Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley
  • Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
  • Never shop hungry – You are far more likely to buy  more food if your tummy is rumbling
  • Don’t buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they’ll charge for chopping can be eye-watering
  • Use social media – Follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
  • Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
  • Check the small print –  It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like-for-like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
  • Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up for them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards
