Labour’s Charlotte Nichols says she has heard ‘harrowing testimony’ from constituents who sought justice
An MP has told the House of Commons that hearing the experiences of her constituents who had reported rape and sexual assault to the police “vindicated” her decision not to report her own experience.
Charlotte Nichols, the Labour MP for Warrington North, said she was a survivor of rape or sexual violence after an urgent question prompted by the Guardian’s revelation on Monday that fewer than one in 60 rape cases recorded by the police last year in England and Wales resulted in a suspect being charged in 2020.
