SKY customers with Netflix included in their package will be automatically switched to the ad-supported tier from today.

The move is a result of Netflix axing its cheapest Basic ad-free tier earlier this year.

The ad-supported tier means Sky customers will have to put up with adverts during films and TV shows - or, switch to one of Netflix's more expensive packages

Sky customers were allowed to keep the Basic ad-free tier for slightly longer than the rest of the world.

But now, it has been cancelled for everyone, except for those who have an existing Basic subscription.

This change mostly affects new Sky customers.

Existing customers will not be switched over automatically until their contract renews or they upgrade or downgrade their plan.

Although, it’s not all doom and gloom.

The shift brings a small bonus in that Netflix’s Standard with Ads tier offers Full HD (1080p) video quality, as opposed to 720p on the Basic tier.
