Exclusive: Guiseppe Sala says policy on polluting cars in UK capital should be supported by national politicians

Sadiq Khan has won the backing of the mayor of Milan, one of Europe’s most congested cities, for an extension of the ultra-low emission zone (Ulez) in London following criticism from voters and his own party leader over the charges facing motorists.

Giuseppe Sala, who has led Milan’s municipal government since 2016, said the mayor of London’s policy on polluting cars was an inspiration to his own attempts to improve air quality in his city in northern Italy.
