MCDONALD’S launched its McPlant burger at all of its UK restaurants at the start of 2022.

The fast food giant’s long-awaited vegan Beyond Meat burger has been available as a double since early 2023.

McDonald’s launched its much anticipated vegan burger, called the McPlant, across the UK and Ireland at the start of 2022.

It came after Initially, the burger was available to customers of ten restaurants in Coventry, from September 29, 2021.

After a successful trial period, an additional 250 restaurants began to serve the vegan burger, causing nationwide anticipation.

But all of McDonald’s roughly 1,270 sites across the UK started serving the meat-free option in January 2022, and it’s now a permanent option.

The country-wide launch of the 429-calorie McPlant burger coincided with Veganuary.

The McPlant includes a plant-based patty developed with Beyond Meat, along with onion, pickles, lettuce and tomato, in a classic sesame seed bun.

It’s also served with a vegan cheese alternative.

Sauces include Vegan Sandwich Sauce, Tomato Ketchup, and mustard

Our taster said the burger was as good as the real thing: “Although this burger tastes much more like veggies and sauce than meat, it’s really delicious – and is a great selection for any vegans or veggies out there.”

Due to popular demand, McDonald’s announced that the McPlant would now be available with a double patty saying: “Double McPlant is here, joining the menu for all to enjoy – veggies, vegans, flexitarians and meat-eaters alike.”

The new Double McPlant, launched in January 2023, and costs £4.89.

A Double McPlant Meal costs £6.49, but prices may vary between restaurants.

The chain assures customers that the Double McPlant is “vegan certified” as well as being “cooked separately from other McDonald’s burgers and sandwiches, using dedicated utensils”.

Where can you get the McDonald’s McPlant burger?

The McPlant is available at all restaurants across the UK.

More menu changes might be afoot, however, as McDonald’s revealed their Christmas advert in November 2023.

Some fans spotted possible menu updates teased in the festive ad, as The Big & Cheesy and The Big & Cheesy Bacon were glimpsed.

We’ve also revealed that throughout November you can get Big Macs, Filet-o-Fish, McNuggets and the McPlant for just 99p, in a deal exclusive to users of the McDonald’s app.

Also available for vegans at McDonald’s are the Vegetable Deluxe, the Spicy Veggie One wrap, and the Veggie Dippers.

And it’s good to know that McDonald’s fries are 100 per cent vegan.

The restaurant chain states: “The fries are not coated in any fats or substances from an animal.

“Once at the restaurant, our fries are simply cooked in dedicated frying vats in a non-hydrogenated blend of sunflower and rapeseed oil which is 100 percent suitable for vegans.”
