MCDONALD’S has been hit by supply chain issues leading to shortages of a staple ingredient in restaurants across the UK.
Fans of the Big Tasty burger might notice it is being served slightly differently due to the shortage.
The Big Tasty and Big Tasty with bacon are being served with just one slice of tomato rather than two.
The tomato shortage is affecting McDonald’s branches across the country.
The fast food chain said it is “working hard to resolve this issue as quickly as possible”.
McDonald’s spokesperson said: “We are currently experiencing a shortage in our supply of tomatoes.
“As a result, the Big Tasty and the Big Tasty with Bacon are being served with one slice of tomato rather than two.
“We apologise for any inconvenience, and thank our customers for their patience.”
It’s not the first time supply chain hiccups have hit the burger giant’s menu.
McDonald’s was forced to take the chicken Big Mac off the menu after it sold out less than two weeks after being launched.
Fans were frustrated when the Chicken Legend disappeared from restaurants for months, too.
The chicken burger was taken off the menu in June and didn’t return until February this year.
In August, it ran out of milkshakes at all of its UK restaurants and was also unable to sell any bottled drinks.
The drinks issue was caused by an industry-wide shortage of lorry drivers.
KFC and Nando’s also struggled with supply chain problems in summer 2021.
