The changes will affect its entire line of beef products in all of its 1,300 restaurants from mid-March.

McDonald’s said it is the most “significant menu change” in decades.

The changes include placing onions on top of each patty while they cook, and altering the way they sear beef patties.

Gareth Pearson, McDonald’s UK and Ireland, said: “We’re constantly innovating and improving our menu and we found that a collection of complementary small improvements to the iconic burgers make a significant difference to the flavour.

“Another big part of this transition has been around our restaurant teams and how we can support them in delivering the best possible customer experience.

“Not only have we introduced new kitchen technology, but we’ve also retrained all 177,000 crew members on these new procedures to enable them to serve our best burgers yet.”

The full list of changes to McDonald’s classic beef burgers are as follows:

  • Beef patties – tighter sear on the grill for hotter, sizzling and juicier beef parries for maximum flavours
  • Grilled onions – new processes on the girl involve adding white onions on top of patties as they cook for added colour and charred flavour
  • Lettuce – fresh lettuce straight from that fridge for a crunchier taste
  • Cheese – hotter beef patties will make the cheese more melted, creating a smoother texture
  • New buns – buttery, brioche-style recipe and freshly toasted

  • Big Mac
  • Quarter Pounder with cheese
  • Cheeseburger
  • Double cheeseburger
  • Triple cheeseburger

The changes have already been introduced in the Unites States and in Australia.

Thomas O’Neill, head of menu for McDonald’s UK and Ireland said the changes will take its burgers “to the next level”.

“There’s a huge amount of work that goes into trialling and perfecting any change to our menu offering,” he said.

“But even more so when it comes to re-imagining our classics for the first time in 50 years.

“It’s really exciting to be rolling out these changes across all our restaurants, and I look forward to our teams serving delicious, yet still classic, meals to customers throughout the UK and Ireland.”

McDonald’s regularly shakes up its menu by adding new and returning items on a roughly six week basis.

But items the Big Mac and chicken McNuggets are permanent staples.

The chain recently revealed its Easter menu, which will land on Wednesday (March 13).

Among the new items are Galaxy Truffle Bunny McFlurry and the Hot Cross Bun Pie.

While the McCrispy Deluxe, the Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry and Halloumi Fries will all also be making a comeback.

How to save money at McDonald’s

You might not think it, but you can end up being charged more solely based on the McDonald’s restaurant you choose.

Research by The Sun found a Big Mac meal can be up to 30p cheaper at restaurants just two miles apart from each other.

Meanwhile, you can pick up a Big Mac and fries for just £2.99 by filling in a feedback survey found on any old McDonald’s receipt.

The receipt should come with a 12-digit code which you can enter into the Food for Thought website alongside your submitted survey.

You’ll then receive a five-digit code which is your voucher for the £2.99 offer.

Make sure you check out all the various apps and platforms if you’re ordering McDonald’s to your home too.

Our research found some can charge up to £1.20 more than others.

How do I find my nearest McDonald’s?

If you’re planning on taking a trip to McDonald’s, you’ll want to know where your nearest branch is.

The chain has a restaurant locator tool on its website you can use to find your nearest one – and check what time it opens.

Bear in mind that McDonald’s serves breakfast every day until 11am.

After that, the menu switches to the normal menu serving meals such as burgers, chicken nuggets and more.
