MCDONALD’S has confirmed two popular breakfast items won’t be returning as they’ve been permanently axed.

The fast food giant revealed today that bagels and breakfast wraps are officially gone from the menu – but hinted that there will be new additions this year.

McDonald’s temporarily scrapped bagels and wraps at the beginning of the pandemic but has decided not to bring them back.

In a statement the burger chain said: “Despite speculation and following a trial separation period, breakfast bagels and breakfast wraps will not be returning to the menu.

“We adore each other deeply but out love for the iconic McMuffin was simply too hard to ignore”.

It added: “As for the rumours that there will be a new breakfast bae on the scene later this year…no comment”.

McMuffins are just 99p today to make it up to disappointed customers, but plenty of bagel and wrap fans took to social media to vent their frustration.

One McDonald’s customer said: “Can you at least tell us why they aren’t coming back? You removed them when you re-opened after the first lockdown. We assumed it was due to space in the kitchen.”

Another said: “This is the actual worst decision you’ve ever made.

“Sausage, egg and cheese bagels were officially the best thing on your menu.”

“I’ve been waiting 2 years for the breakfast wrap to return that’s the only breakfast item I have,” a disappointed customer said.

The fast food chain added a new breakfast roll to its morning menu last year.

McDonald’s serves breakfast every day from opening until 11am, including McMuffins, pancakes and flatbreads.

Restaurants that are open 24-hours often start selling their morning menu from 5am.

It extended the menu’s hours by 30 minutes in 2019 due to the popularity of its breakfast offering.
