But what about McDonald’s? Here’s everything you need to know.

When is McDonald’s open over the Christmas bank holidays?

McDonald’s opening times across Christmas Day and Boxing Day will vary depending on the store and location.

As a result, the fast food chain recommends using their online store locator or calling ahead for opening and closing times.

However, it has been confirmed that most of McDonald’s restaurants in the UK will be closed on Christmas Day.

A select few will be open for a few hours on December 25, but this is likely to be larger restaurants located at service stations or retail parks.

On Boxing Day, almost all McDonald’s are expected to be open, but again hours will vary from branch to branch.

In some locations, namely the larger stores, McDonald’s can be open for 24 hours a day.

High street branches may shut earlier, though, usually at midnight or even 10pm.

Are other restaurants open on the bank holidays?

Almost all restaurants, along with businesses, including attractions and shops, will be closed on Christmas Day.

However, along with supermarkets, department stores and smaller retailers, they are expected to begin trading once more on Boxing Day – but opening times will change.

In any case, most restaurants have store locators which you can use to find out where your nearest branch is and its opening hours.

Public transport timings also vary on a bank holiday weekend, so ensure you check the timetables to avoid any travel troubles.

But several major high street chains have already confirmed the closures of their stores for at least one day during the busy Christmas period.

John Lewis, however, will close all of its 34 stores for two days at Christmas to give staff time to spend with family and friends.

Marks and Spencer is also doing the same with its 400 stores over Christmas Day and Boxing Day to allow time with loved ones.
