MCDONALD’S axes one of its popular menu items today, so fans don’t have long to get in one last taste.
The Chicken Big Mac is being removed from the menu after a short run that divided opinion between fans – but plenty had hoped it would stick around a little longer.
The Chicken Big Mac made a brief return to McDonald’s this month after it initially sold-out within just 10 days.
The chicken-equivalent of the burger chain’s popular Big Mac first made headlines when it launched back in February.
Fans of the fast food giant rushed to the chain to try the brand new menu item.
The Sun exclusively revealed the burger was coming to the UK for the first time, as it hit restaurants at the beginning of the year.
But McDonald’s was quickly forced to take the burger off the menu after selling out of the popular new item faster than expected.
Even then, fans were devastated.
When McDonald’s brought it back this time around though, it did declare that the burger would go for good on March 15.
Sadly for some, that day has now arrived, so they have to wave goodbye to their favourite meal.
On Twitter fans shared what they thought about the devastating news.
“First the Chicken Legend, now a Chicken Big Mac,” one lamented, referencing the other menu item that disappeared briefly last year.
Another simply said: “I need McDonald’s to make the Chicken Big Mac permanent.”
And a third agreed. They said: “McDonald’s you need to keep the Chicken Big Mac.”
Meanwhile, another applauded the chain for the short but sweet run, as they said: “I’d like to thank you McDonald’s. The Chicken Big Mac has been an outstanding creation.”
But not everybody has been a fan since the burger first started popping up in UK restaurants.
Amid the pleas for McDonald’s to keep the Chicken Big Mac, some fans were happy to see the back of it.
One said: “McDonald’s, hurry up and get rid of that Chicken Big Mac off the menu – that thing tastes horrible!”
While another said: “I’m sorry the Chicken Big Mac did absolutely nothing for me. Why was there hype?”
At the moment, there aren’t any plans for the limited edition item to return to the menu once again.
We’ve asked McDonald’s if it could make another sneaky appearance though, and what is set to replace it.
On Twitter, McDonald’s Nucleus GB, which makes up restaurants across Sunderland, Hartlepool and County Durham, teased of another menu item to take the burger’s place.
Admins on the account said: “Not long left to try our Chicken Big Mac, before the new promotion starts.”
We don’t yet know what that new promotion will be, but we will update this story once we know more.
The chain launched other brand new items this year though.
For example, the new McPlant burger launched in all McDonald’s restaurants at the start of this year.
