THIS train hack could save you hundreds of pounds on your festive travels this year.

The first set of train tickets for the Christmas period have now been released and Brits are being urged to book as soon as possible.

With just two months to go before the big day, the Money-Saving Expert (MSE) website has warned once tickets are gone they’re gone – and you might be left having to pay over the odds.

People looking to visit family or head home for Christmas were being advised to book 12 weeks in advance to save disappointment.

And if you bought tickets now following the advice, this would in theory cover you for the whole of the festive calendar up until January 20, 2023.

But if you leave it until the last minute, you could face paying an extortionate amount.

Once the cheaper tickets have sold out, the train company can then increase their prices especially if it’s a last minute booking.

The MSE website explains how a Nottingham to Manchester return, departing on December 23 and coming back on January 3, currently costs £32.

But this is likely to increase in price especially when tickets are in demand.

It comes after the fine for not having a train ticket increased.

The fee, which is currently £20, will go up by another £80 in January 2023.

It was announced yesterday, if you are caught without a ticket and you travelled from a station that had ticket facilities, then you could be fined.

A penalty can also be imposed if you travel beyond your designated destination.
