Martin Lewis has explained how to bag big bargains on beauty products this Christmas

Shops often release advent calendars in the run-up to Christmas – and you usually pay less than the total value of the goodies inside.

On his ITV programme The Martin Lewis Money Show, Martin said shoppers could save money by giving the items in the advent calendar to friends and family as Christmas or birthday presents to save money.

However, the consumer guru said they usually sell out quickly – so if you want to bag one, you should buy it sooner rather than later.

But any leftover advent calendars retailers have been unable to sell are usually discounted even further – so if you’re happy to risk waiting to see if you can get an even better deal, you might want to hold on until later this year.

Martin outlined four advent calendars that shoppers could buy from shops – and how much they could save.

In some cases, Martin’s calculations of how much the advent calendar is worth based on the prices of the products varies from what the retailer has valued this as.

Holland & Barrett

Holland & Barrett’s 25 Days of Beauty advent calendar costs £45 – but Martin said the products came to a combined value of £165, which would save you £120.

However, Holland & Barrett says that the products have a combined value of £170, which would mean you’d be saving £125.

The products included in the box includes eye cream, body wash, toothpaste, perfume and face masks.

When The Sun checked online, it was available to buy – and delivery for the box was free.

If you want to buy it in stores, use Holland & Barrett’s store locator tool online.

Latest in Beauty is a subscription service where customers receive a monthly box of goodies.

It is selling a Christmas advent calendar for £70, claiming that the combined value of all the products is actually worth £360 – meaning you’d save £290.

However, Martin estimated the products are actually worth £341 – but that’s still a saving of £271.

Products in the box include big brand names like Crabtree & Evelyn, Molton Brown and Elizabeth Arden.

When The Sun checked online, the advent calendar was available to buy – but make sure to factor in the price of delivery, which is £3.95.

Boots

Boots is launching its No7 Advent Calendar next Tuesday, October 26 – but if you signed up to the waiting list, you’ll be able to get your hands on it now.

It’s selling for £47 but Boots says its worth £184 – saving you £137.

Martin said it was actually worth £1 less at £183 – which is still a £136 saving.

The advent calendar isn’t listed on the Boots website yet, but if you do want to buy it online, delivery will be free as you’ve spent over £25.

If you want to buy it in store, you can find where your nearest Boots is by using its online branch locator tool.

M&S

M&S’ Beauty Advent calendar will go on sale on October 28.

It’s £40 and includes big name products like Ren,  L’Occitane, Nails Inc and more.

But there’s a catch – you have to spend £30 on clothing, home and beauty products at the store in order to get for the advent calendar.

Food is not included in this qualifying spend.

M&S says the value of all the products combined in the set comes to £300 – but Martin says that it is actually worth £227.

That means you would be saving at least £187 – and could be saving as much as £260.

What other advent calendars are on sale?

Loads of other retailers are selling advent calendars too.

Amazon is selling a beauty advent calendar for £70, and says the products are worth over £260.

It includes goodies from popular names like Neal’s Yard and John Frieda.

You can buy it on Amazon’s website now.

Aldi is also selling a beauty advent calendar too.

At £54.99, you can get face cream, mascara, and lip balm among the list of items on offer – it’s available to pre-order now.

John Lewis is also offering one of its own too.

At £159, the retailer says you could save £441 because the products are worth a combined £600.

Feeling festive? Take a look at Tesco’s Christmas sandwich range – and it includes a pigs in blankets sub and Yorkshire pudding wraps.

Costa has launched its Christmas menu and it includes Quality Street lattes.

Greggs has revealed the exact date the Festive Bake is back – and it’s launching a vegan version too.
