Lewis Hughes, 24, appears in court on Friday after confrontation involving England’s chief medical officer

A 24-year-old man has admitted assaulting England’s chief medical officer, Prof Chris Whitty, in a central London park.

An investigation was launched after Prof Whitty was accosted in St James’s Park at about 7.20pm on Sunday 27 June.
