It is understood that it will be the highest paying UK supermarket once the pay hikes roll in.

Minimum wage for London staff will rise to £11.05 an hour, the same as the voluntary London Living Wage.

Workers will vote on whether to accept the rise or not.

This year’s rise is not as big as last year’s, when Morrisons hiked pay by 9% for 96,000 staff.

Under a new pay deal, workers saw their wages increase from £9.20 an hour to £10.

Usdaw union national officer Joanne McGuinness said of Morrisons latest pay rise: “Today’s announcement recognises the important contribution our colleagues make in serving local communities up and down the country.”

How does it compare to other supermarkets?

Morrisons is thought to be the supermarket with the highest pay, once the increase comes in later this year.
