The silver ring comes with one diamond-style gem in the middle all inside a heart-shaped box.

Customers can buy the ring online and in-store from today, January 23.

Catherine Fryer, events buyer at Asda, said: “With the average cost of an engagement ring in the thousands, we’re delighted to be bringing back our popular £1 ring as an affordable way for customers to propose this Valentine’s Day.”

News of the ring going on sale has hit social media, with a post featuring on the Money Saver By Dansway Facebook page.

One said: “Can pop it on the Asda shop,” while another customer, tagging her boyfriend, added: “Corrr now I don’t know how I’d be able to say no.”

Asda said it expects to sell around 40,000 of the rings this year.

It’s not the first time the retailer has sold the jewellery.
