A MAJOR supermarket is giving out free pastries if you just spend 1p.

Bargain hunters are flocking to Lidl stores up and down the country to nab the tasty treats using an easy trick.

The budget supermarket is offering up the free snack to any customers who use their loyalty app.

All shoppers need to do is scan their Plus card app at the till. 

It could mean claiming a free pretzel or cookie, usually worth 39p each, all the way to a slice of pizza, usually worth 69p.

TikTok account Costoflivingcrisistips tried out the thrifty trick earlier today. 

They explained: “Do your Lidl shop as normal or if you’re a cheapskate like me just get a banana for 14p.

“You basically take what you’re purchasing to the till and pay for it and scan your app. 

“I won a pain au chocolate. Then I went and got that and took it to the till, scaned it and it was free.

“So basically I got a pain au chocolate and a banana for 14p. Happy days.”

Lidl Plus is a virtual rewards card that you have to download Lidl’s free app to claim.

The Plus card app lets you unlock money-off coupons when you reach your spending targets each month, and is a great way to save on Lidl’s already low prices.

Once this coupon pops up though, you only have seven days to use it, so you’ll need to be quick.

What you can use it on will be subject to the availability of products at your local store too.

And you can’t use it online either, as Lidl doesn’t offer deliveries, so you will have to venture out to your closest Lidl store – use its locator tool to find out where that is.

It’s not the only time you can claim freebies from the discount store though – as on your birthday you can get a free cookie worth 39p too.

A Lidl spokesperson said: “Just in case you thought your Lidl shop couldn’t get any better, from the 1st to 29th February, do your shop, scan your Lidl Plus card at check out and win a free bakery item! 

“Simply check your app after your shop and you’ll find your Super Spin wheel ready and waiting. 

“With one spin, you’ll win a coupon for one of our free tasty bakes – don’t forget every spin wins. 

“Whether your heart belongs to an iced doughnut, a rich chocolate brownie or a pizza slice, get spinning and winning after your Lidl shop.”
