A MAJOR supermarket has revealed it is closing the majority of its stores on Easter Sunday.

Aldi will pull down shutters on 890 stores in England and Wales on April 9.

But branches will be open on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.

Plus, Scottish branches will be open on Easter Sunday.

It’s worth noting that shops in England and Wales larger than 280 square metres have to close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day, under Government rules.

Plus, shops of the same size can open on Sundays normally, but only for six consecutive hours between 10am and 6pm.

Aldi said branches will be open between 8am and 10pm on Good Friday, 8am to 10pm on Easter Saturday and 8am to 8pm on Easter Monday this year.

But these aren’t guaranteed opening hours and will vary depending on the shop.

You should check out Aldi’s store locator to find out what your nearest branch’s opening hours will be.

You can find the locator by typing “Aldi store locator” into Google.

You then have to type in your town or postcode and it will draw up your closest outlet.

Beyond Aldi, the other major supermarkets haven’t yet revealed their Easter opening hours.

But you should keep checking their websites in the run up to the holidays for more details.

Most retailers have store locators that show you your local branch’s opening hours which they will update closer to the time.

As soon as we find out what time supermarkets and other retailers are opening their stores, we will let you know.

It’s not the first time Aldi has closed its branches on Easter Sunday.

It pulled down shutters across its stores last year while stores remained open on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.

The chain was joined by a number of other supermarkets doing the same.

Co-op closed its larger outlets on Easter Sunday while the smaller convenience stores were operating normal opening hours.

Tesco closed its larger stores on Easter Sunday and reopened them on Easter Monday, although opening hours varied from branch to branch.

Larger Sainsbury’s stores were open on Easter Sunday too but opening hours varied. All stores reopened as normal on Easter Monday.

Meanwhile, Lidl’s opening hours on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday varied as customers were told to check their nearest stores’ opening hours.
