A MAJOR high street shop has announced where further store closures will take place within days.

M&Co will bring the shutters down on two more stores this month following the news that all 170 stores are set to close forever.

It follows six of the brand’s store closures on April 1 and three at the end of March.

Administrators at Teneo put the bust business up for sale with an auction deadline for interested buyers.

M&Co’s brand and intellectual property was sold to Yours Clothing but the stores weren’t and are set to close.

The Sun can now reveal the exact dates that two more stores will cease trading.

M&Co’s Upminster store will close for good on Tuesday, April 11 and its Egham shop will bring the shutters down for the final time on Saturday, April 15.

The closures have been confirmed on both stores’ Facebook pages.

M&Co’s Upminster Facebook page said: “We will close our doors on Tuesday 11th April.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our loyal customers for your custom and friendship throughout the years.

A post on the M&Co Egham page said: “Last day of trading for Egham store will be Saturday, April 15.”

It follows nine M&Co store closures in recent weeks.

M&Co’s Wick and Fort William stores closed for good on Saturday, March 25.

The brand’s Thurso shop then shut to customers for the final time on Tuesday, March 28.

Six more M&Co stores brought the shutters down forever on Saturday, April 1 in:

  • Lewes
  • Gosport
  • Belper
  • Beccles
  • Newquay
  • Lerwick

Teneo, M&Co’s administrator, said that further stores will begin to vanish from the high street as store stock dries up.

But the administrator wouldn’t provide an exact date when it expects the brand to completely exit the high street.

M&Co has been running a huge 30-60% off closing down sale in stores in recent weeks to help shed remaining stock.

Shoppers need to act fast to take advantage of the discounts because once the items are sold they’re gone forever.

And remember you might find that your closest store doesn’t have what you want in stock.

You can find your closest M&Co store by visiting the retailer’s website and using the store locator tool.

M&Co isn’t the only store to go into administration and shut its shop doors.

Stationery retailer Paperchase collapsed into administration on January 31.

Supermarket giant Tesco quickly stepped up to buy rights to the brand but all Paperchase stores ceased trading on Monday, April 3.

Retailers have been feeling the pinch since the pandemic while shoppers are cutting back spending due to soaring inflation.

When prices are going up it squeezes people’s incomes, meaning many are forced to shop less – and that’s bad news for shops, restaurants and pubs.

High energy costs and a shift to shopping online after the pandemic are also taking a toll and many high street shops have struggled to keep going.

We have a full list of all the other high street stores closing from this week.
