A MAJOR coffee chain has confirmed another one of its branches will be shutting its doors for good early next year.

The coffee chain which, has around 2,000 sites nationwide, has said goodbye to several branches this year and it looks like we’ll see similar action next year.

Costa will be closing the shutters on its Chiswick store early next year

Costa Coffee will close its store on Chiswick High Road by February 6, 2024.

The nearest Costa Coffee for locals will now be King’s Street in Hammersmith.

However it doesn’t look like the town will be without its coffee hit for long, local media reports two new coffee shops are expected to open in Chiswick soon.

Locals flocked to Facebook to say they were not surprised after hearing the news.

One user said: “Sadly it’s gone downhill,” referring to the Codta branch.

Another asked: “Wonder what will replace it with another coffee or charity shop or estate agent.”

“Good we need to support local independent businesses,” said someone else.

A Costa Coffee Spokesperson told The Sun: “We can confirm that our Costa Coffee store in Chiswick will close its doors for trade on the 6th of February 2024.”

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused. All team members will be redeployed to nearby stores.”

“Customers can continue to enjoy their favourite Costa coffee at our nearest store in Kings Mall, Hammersmith.”

The coffee chain has seen a string of closures over the past year with seven sites gone already.

Costa says it regularly reviews its store estate across the UK to ensure it’s right for its communities and teams.

This can include the closing or renovation of existing stores, or the opening of new stores.

Costa Coffee is not the only hospitality retailer that has been struggling over the past few years.

Energy costs have risen and more shoppers than ever are choosing to order online rather than head into stores.

This has left some retailers grappling with budgets and have no choice but to close stores to cut costs.

Rival chain Caffè Nero announced it would be pulling down the shutters on seven branches in May next year.

Wetherspoons has been closing pubs across the UK and 20 pubs still remain at risk.

All four Papa Johns branches across Cardiff in South Wales have shut their doors to customers.

Last month all four branches of Manchester-based chain Sud will hold their final service on New Year’s Eve.
