YOU could boost your chances at winning the lottery with a few little-known tricks.
It comes after National Lottery operator Camelot this week revealed there have been 382 new millionaires created in the last year.
The lotto is drawn every Wednesday and Saturday night, with the option to choose 6 numbers between 1 and 59.
Now, the game’s operator has confirmed that lottery sales grew by £99.6million to £8.19billion for the year to March 31.
The National Lottery also awarded £4.69billion in prize money to players, creating 382 new millionaires.
This included five EuroMillions jackpots which were scooped in the UK.
Camelot bosses Clare Swindell and Neil Brocklehurst said: “We’re delighted to have grown National Lottery sales year-on-year to their second highest on record, creating almost 400 millionaires in the process.”
Below, we explain a few little-known tricks to help you boost your chances of winning.
However, do note that the only way to guarantee wins is to buy more or all tickets, but these tips might improve your odds – which is currently one in 45,057,474, according to Lottery.co.uk.
Here’s a look at what you could do.

Don’t pick dates
A lot of people gamble on dates, according to an expert we chatted to.
Try to think of something different every time or research which numbers come up the most in jackpots to heighten your chances.
For example, Number 58 has been in 18 jackpot winnings between February 2022 and February 2023.
The average jackpot winnings that ‘58’ has appeared in is £7,071,360.
Pick the most common numbers
Sometimes picking the most common lottery numbers could help you boost the likelihood of getting rich quickly.
To win the Euromillions, for instance, you need to match five main numbers and two Lucky Stars.
Since September 2016, the numbers which have made the most appearances are: 20, 17, 21, 42 and 23.
The most drawn Lucky Stars are 2, and 3.
For the lotto, ball 40 is the most common one to come out of the machine in the UK Lotto, followed closely behind by 23 and 27.
They say 13 is unlucky for some and this may be right for Lotto customers – it’s among the least common numbers.
But ultimately, you’ll need a good dose of luck on your side to get the jackpot.
Pick double digits higher than 31
These will not be included in those who pick birthday numbers, pointed out Francisc Csiki, an expert we spoke to.
Since a lot of people use their birthdays as numbers, no double digits higher than 31 would be used in these instances.
Therefore, they’re probably used less frequently, and you’ve got a better chance of winning the jackpot with them.
There are also two numbers that, according to Arin Zargarian’s 2020 paper on the statistical analysis of Powerball winning, are more likely to come up in a lottery draw, and they are 21 and 23.
Play the People’s Postcode
The Postcode Lottery raises money for charities.
In 2021, 77% of players won prizes, including £10, £1,000 and £30,000 prizes, according to the gambling game.
It works per area – so, the more properties signed up in a particular postcode, the more chances they have at winning.
On average, each property within a postcode has a 1 in 1.2 million chance of winning each day, but your chances could be raised by getting others to sign up.
Mr Csiki said: “For your best chances of success, the People’s Postcode draw is the go-to game.
“Participants can play in daily, biweekly, and monthly draws, with jackpots of £1,000, £30,000, and £7.9million.
“The daily draw awards the money to one winner in 20 postcodes, and the Saturday and Sunday draws provide the award to a player in one postcode.
“The monthly draw money is spread among one postcode area’s participants.”
However, be sure to gamble responsibly if you’re taking part in the lottery.
