IF you thought outer space was a void of eerie silence, think again.

Space stuff is often focused on the visual side and we rarely consider what it sounds like.

Nasa says the idea that there's no sound in space is a 'misconception'

But Nasa has now revealed the spooky sound of a black hole.

It comes from a huge one found more than 200million light-years away from Earth.

And the melody is as horrifying as one might expect from something so mysterious.

The space agency put together the audio using various sound waves and clever data.

“The misconception that there is no sound in space originates because most space is a ~vacuum, providing no way for sound waves to travel,” Nasa tweeted.

“A galaxy cluster has so much gas that we’ve picked up actual sound.

“Here it’s amplified, and mixed with other data, to hear a black hole!”

The black hole in question is found at the centre of a galaxy cluster called Perseus.

Back in 2003, astronomers realised that pressure waves blasted out by the black hole caused ripples in the cluster’s hot gas that could be translated into a note.

However, us humans are not able to hear it.

So experts have converted it in a process known as sonification, to produce the strange sound before us today.

“Another way to put this is that they are being heard 144 quadrillion and 288 quadrillion times higher than their original frequency,” Nasa said.
