Lidl is bringing back its bargain sell-out air fryer – but you’ll have to be quick

GERMAN discounter Lidl has brought back one of its air fryers as customers look to cut back on their bills.

The appliances can be cheaper to use than a conventional oven and have been flying off shelves in recent months.

Now Lidl has started stocking a 7.4 litre Salter model for just under £100.

A shopper took to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group sharing a photo of one of the “bargain” fryers they bought from their local branch in Loughborough, Leicestershire.

But Lidl said the fryer might not be available in all stores so you’re not guaranteed to find one at your nearest branch.

The appliance comes with dual compartments so you can cook two separate foods at one time.

Plus, it has a digital LED display and a number of pre-set programmes to choose from.

Of course, you should always shop around when looking for the best deals.

You can use websites like trolley.co.uk which lets you compare the prices of thousands of supermarket goods.

Or, you can use pricespy.co.uk which lets you compare prices on everything from perfume to mobile phones and trainers.

There’s plenty of air fryers on the market currently so you don’t have to go for the Salter 7.4 litre model, which is probably more suitable for families.

For example, Lidl has just started stocking a Silvercrest Compact air fryer in its middle aisle for £39.99.

It’s got a 1.8 litre capacity so is much smaller than the Salter model, but if you live by yourself or in a couple, it might be a cheaper and more suitable choice.

The German retailer is also selling a four litre Tower air fryer for £54.99 too.

It comes with a two litre warranty too and a timer that goes up to 30 minutes.

Are air fryers cheaper than ovens?

The cost of running an air fryer is not always the same – it depends on its wattage.

The higher the wattage, the higher the cost will be to use it for the same period of time.

But remember that a higher wattage fryer will cook your food faster too.

You can work out how much an appliance costs to run by multiplying its wattage by the amount of time it’s on and then by the cost of electricity.

The current cost of a unit of electricity is 34p per kilowatt hour.

So if you have a 500-watt appliance and run it for an hour, it will cost 17p.

A 1,000 watt air fryer costs 17p to run for 30 minutes and 34p to run for an hour under the current price cap.

A 1,800W gadget costs around 31p for 30 minutes, and 61p for 60 minutes.

But using an air fryer might not always be cheaper than running an oven.

A 2kW oven costs around 34p to run for half an hour, or 38p for an hour’s use.

That means you could run a 1,000W air fryer for an hour for 4p less.

Meanwhile, a 3.5 kilowatt oven costs around 60p to run for half an hour and £1.19 an hour.

So it’s more than likely an air fryer would be cheaper in this situation.
