In the fast lane: Zapp has got the backing of Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton entered the rapid grocery wars by taking part in a £150m funding round for Zapp.

The start-up delivery app, and rivals including Gorillas, Weezy and Getir, are battling for customers who want their shopping to their door in as little as ten minutes.

The industry has attracted billions of pounds of venture capital cash.

And yesterday Zapp, founded in 2020, got the backing of the seven-time Formula One world champion in a funding round led by venture capital firm Lightspeed.

It did not say how much Hamilton invested. However, the total cash raised by the grocery deliverer stands at £225m.

Zapp stocks thousands of everyday products in dozens of dark stores, small shop-ilke city centre warehouses. The stock is picked by gig workers and delivered to customers’ doors on electric bikes and mopeds.

Zapp did not say what role Hamilton will play, but the company – founded in 2020 by Joe Falter and Navid Hadzaad – hailed having the ‘Formula One legend’ in its investor line-up.
