Break-up: Kellogg’s began life in 1894 when WK Kellogg created Corn Flakes

Kellogg’s is splitting into three separate companies by spinning off its US cereal and plant-based foods businesses from its global snacking arm – which includes brands such as Pringles.

The company began life in 1894 when WK Kellogg created Corn Flakes and became known around the world for its breakfast cereals.

The brand was first introduced in the UK in 1922 with Corn Flakes and All Bran imported from the US. It opened a UK office in London in 1924.

In recent years, the company has focused on building its snacking business, which includes the international cereal firm that serves the UK.

The division brought in £9.3billion in sales in 2021, accounting for 80 per cent of the total.

Its other two divisions – US, Canadian and Caribbean cereal and plant-based businesses – collectively represented about 20 per cent of its sales in 2021.

The firm said the main snacking business will be helmed by Kellogg’s chief executive Steve Cahillane.
