- ‘Enforcing what people should wear is rather outdated’
- Ascot will still feature top hat and tails at the Royal meeting
For more than two centuries it has been an established part of horse racing’s rich heritage. But now the Jockey Club, which owns 15 of the biggest courses in Britain, has scrapped its “outdated” formal dress code as part of a drive to make the sport more “accessible and inclusive”.
The move will mean that racegoers will be free to wear what they want with immediate effect in all enclosures at Jockey Club tracks, including Cheltenham, Aintree, Newmarket, Epsom and Sandown.
